Week of the Dog in CFGL:
This week all eyes were on Fort Worth, Texas to see if Coach Prime and his CU Buffs could live up to the self-created hype. Not only did the Buffs shock the college football world, but more importantly, their upset was worth 21 dog game points for ten of our CFGL players. Prime not only infused a new energy into the sport, but also added 210 points to our league-wide total.
Monday night it was Clemson who fell victim as a double digit dog, while it was Duke who looked like they should have been favored. Dabo has stated that he built his program on NIL…”In the name, image, and likeness of his lord and savior, Jesus Christ” (yes he said this, Google it ). As one League veteran put into a text chain, Dabo likely spends this week praying for the Blue Devil to leave his soul. Ten more dog-game-winners each added 12.5 points to their weekly total.
Two other big upsets shaped the scoreboard this week. Ride north with me to Laramie, Wyoming for a Mountain West, late night special. Craig Bohl and the Cowboys overcame a 17-0 deficit, sent the game into multiple OTs, and eventually wore out the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Seven dog-game-winners (87.5 total points) came from this significant upset.
Still not convinced on the power of the dog? Perhaps I go a more patriotic route…Army rolls the cadets into Monroe, Louisiana to batter the Warhawks and comes out with a relatively easy win. With that victory, twelve players add double digits (10) to their weekly total.
As a week one reminder, here are some guidelines for maximizing your points weekly:
- Win your Power and Binding games weekly. These games are worth ten points each. You selected your own Power conference and the entire CFGL picks from the assigned conference weekly.
- Strategically use your three Free Picks. There are multiple ways to attack picks each week…
- Shoot for the Perfecto– If you can go 5/5 in a week, you get to double your points. That means five different picks that hit are worth at least an 82 point week.
- Parlay for a bonus– A risky but rewarding play is to “parlay” your three free picks. If you win all three games, you get a 20 point total bonus on your winners. The downside? If you lose even one of the three, no winner in the parlay gets points.
- Stack ’em up– You are allowed to pick the same game multiple times. If you have a sure fire winner, simplify and make that game worth more by picking it more than once. Don’t forget that you still have to have a Power and Binding game when stacking.
- Find the right Moneyline– If you can see the upset coming, you can increase the value of your picks by selecting underdogs to win outright. The reward is the number of points in the spread added to your 7 or 10 point winning pick. Just remember, your dog has to win the game outright.
- Win your dog games. Each week your dog game is a pure bonus. It doesn’t count towards a Perfecto and is worth the amount of points in the spread of the game. Some weeks a 3-point dog may be enough to break a tie for the conference chip. Other weeks it is the double digit dog winners that shoot to the top of the scoreboard.
- Beat the players in your conference for 10 extra points and $25 “chip”. Each week we award 10 points to any player who scores the most points in their conference. Not only do you get the 10 points added to your total, but you also earn a $25 chip to be paid at the end of the season.
