Previewing New Year’s Day Games

Bay St. Louis, MS– We started the day with nine games remaining in our Bowl Season pool and lots of unanswered questions about some of the top teams in College Football. Ole Miss vs. Penn St. was a battle of “runner-ups”, each potentially the third best team in the “best” two conferences. On Saturday, Ole Miss dominated the Nittany Lions, going up and down the field at will. As a result, the Rebs became the 19th $line winner of the bowl season, rewarding the 23% of The League with bonus points and the 20% that took Ole Miss and the points.

Georgia was back-to-back champions and the best one loss team in the country. They simply had the worst timed loss of all teams. Florida St. felt disrespected when it was left out of the CFP and then decided that rather than “opt-in” to proving they belonged, they blamed ESPN and the ACC for not showing them enough respect for what they had accomplished. Both teams had arguments for being included in the CFP, but only Georgia prepared and played like they had something to prove. The 63-3 final became the largest victory in FBS Bowl history. 32% of risked points were on UGA to cover, and that victory catapulted T-Bizzle to the top of the League standings for the first time this bowl season.

As Monday begins, T-Bizzle will hold a five point lead over our most consistent bowl picker this season, Whitey Badger, who lurks at #2. #3 MustangGrills struggled on Saturday, but remains near the top of best possible list and has a real chance with a combined 71 points on the two PAC-12 teams left on the schedule. Head of the Table sits at #4 but picked up extra points with Ole Miss and Maryland $line wins. Bruin Boy hangs on to the #5 spot but does not have enough points to threaten the leaders. A job well done and lots to build on for next year, BB.

Moneyline winners were mentioned in our last update and Stackagain (#6), The Guy Behind 199 Other Guys (#7), nofrills (#8), and The Beast Infection (#9) run of $line winners have put them near the top of the standings. Remaining points leave TGB199OG and nofrills with the best opportunity of those $lines continue to hit. At #10 we have Swamp Donkey who is on an absolute tear over the last two days. Swamp Donkey has hit 9/10 games and 291 points in the last ten. With 190 points remaining on Monday, this Donkey is the biggest threat to our current leaders.

Jan 1 Points Create Lots of Room for Shifts in CFGL Results

With five New Year’s Day games on Monday, the CFGL is still very much up for grabs. All five games are ranked among the five most valuable games in CFGL19 Bowl Season. All five contests are worth an average of more than 29 points, with Bama/Michigan topping out with an average value of 32 points. With so much at risk, there are some players from deeper in the field to keep an eye on.

  • RipperRipski – Currently #11 with huge points on Wisconsin, Oregon, and a Bama upset
  • Blue– Currently #16 after five straight 30+ wins still has five of top six point values left
  • Petrino’s Legend– (#18) RED HOT, nailing his last eight picks. His top games remain…
  • Meegs3000– (#20) Selections of LSU under and Liberty give him a chance to earn points where few are trying.
  • LaBajada– (#29)- Has the most points left on the board by a long shot with 236.5. She could be the greatest Cinderella Story we have had in Bowl Season

Every Result Will Matter in Naming Our Champion This Year

Given the number of points risked on our last group of games this year, there is no doubt that every January 1st game will matter for the winner. In years past we have had a clear winner before the final game, but this year will come down to picks in the Sugar Bowl between Texas and Washington. Here is how the Top 15 has picked today’s games: (remember, there are a couple of folks outside top 15 that have a chance to win it).

Here is how each New Year’s Day game has been picked:

Today we will have score updates, projections, and statistics throughout the day on Twittter. You can follow along by following me at @Deeds_CFGL. Final write up and payouts will come via this website on January 3rd!
